On Monday November 2, the Book Club met to discuss Robert Kaplan’s Medical Murder: Disturbing Cases of Doctors Who Kill. Kaplan shows that medical murder (he calls it clinicide) has a long history in the profession, while stressing that it is practised by a very small proportion of doctors.

In October, the Book Club met to discuss The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society written by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows. Mary Ann Shaffer was a 70 year old American former librarian who had been interested in writing all of her life but never previously published. Sadly she became ill and did not live to see her book published.

On Monday September 7, the Book Club met to discuss Families: Modern Australian Short Stories, The book is edited by Barry Oakley and includes stories from contemporary Australian writers, such as Cate Kennedy, Tim Winton and David Malouf.

On Monday August 3, the Book Club met to discuss Marcus Zusak’s The Book Thief.
The story, set in Germany in WWII, is centred on a very young girl, Liesel Meminger. It opens with Liesel’s mother taking her children to a foster home where it should be safe for her to spend the troubled times. Read more >>
