    Bellarine Sharks season ends

By gracey on Wed 27th Oct 2010

This season’s winter soccer came to an end with the Bellarine Sharks Senior Women playing Corio Bay in the grand final. The girls of both sides had a nervous start however eventually Corio Bay broke through to score the first goal of the day. In an extraordinary burst of brilliance just before half time the girls from Bellarine bounced back to score 3 goals in 5 minutes. At half time the score was 3-1 with Bellarine well on top. After half time the game slowed as the girls from both sides tired however the Bellarine team still maintained control of the ball for most of the time until the last 10 minutes of the game when Corio Bay broke through to score their second goal and in the last 3 minutes they scored the equaliser and so at full time the scores were level at 3 all. The game went into a further 30 minutes of extra time but neither team could score and so after 2 hours of exhausting grand final football the game would be decided upon a penalty shoot out. Even then the game was taken to the last kick of the 10 penalty shots to decide the game which Corio Bay finally won. After the game the Bellarine Sharks Senior Women’s team sweeper, Kym Talbot was awarded Best and Fairest for the Geelong Regions Div.2 Senior Women. The Sharks now look forward to their 6 weeks of indoor training which started on Sunday 17 October at Bellarine Secondary College 3pm juniors and 4pm youth/seniors.

Call Murray or Donna on (03) 5257 2106 if you would like to be involved. Preseason outdoor training starts on Collendina Beach in February 2011.

SpringDale Football (Soccer) Club looking for silverware & more players

By SpringDale on Mon 27th Sep 2010

The clubs’ men’s yellow finished third on the ladder setting up the action against Barwon in the 3rd Division preliminary final. The yellows team travelled to Barwon as underdogs, but came from 1-3 down with fifteen minutes remaining to equalise and take the game to extra time. Despite some very tired legs, they pulled off a stunning 5-4 victory. In addition to the men’s yellow teams’ success, the juniors have thrilled with some spirited performances in the local non competitive under 9′s and under 7′s Small Sided Football programs. Also helping to raise the profile of the ‘Republic’ in its first season of outdoor competition was Darren Roddis, a centre forward with the men’s red team, who broke the local leagues goalscoring record with 44 goals to his name, a record that is likely to stand for some time. The reds team finished in fifth place in division 3, just outside a finals position.

Junior outdoors soccer will begin at the start of November at 6pm to 7pm on Wednesdays in school term time (venue to be announced), social womens and youth girls Futsal (5 a side soccer) will run Wednesdays 7pm to 8pm at Drysdale Primary School Hall, and this is followed at the same venue from 8pm to 10pm by social Futsal for men and male youth.

In addition to the local summer program, the club is supporting Futsal Geelong in launching season 2 of the Bellarine Futsal League (men’s futsal competition) to be run over the summer on Monday nights at the Bellarine Aquatic & Sports Centre in Ocean Grove, commencing late October.

Thanks to our supporters and community partners – Momentum Energy, Lisa Neville MP, Headspace Barwon, Drysdale & Clifton Springs Community Association and of course the SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre for helping us make this years programs possible. A special thanks also to Clifton Springs Primary School and Drysdale Primary School for providing the venues that make all of our programs happen.

To get involved with either our summer or winter programs, please contact Geoff Briggs on 0428 501150 or visit http://www.springdalefc.com.au/ for further information.
